Bittersweet Memory

Nong-mang-kha, a traditional plant of Manipur, holds a special place. Whenever I had a cold and cough, my Grandmother would boil the evergreen leaves of Nong-mang-kha and make me sip the infusion or inhale its steam. It's a bittersweet memory. - Dweller Pratima

The Truth about Hibiscus Tea

When you think of hibiscus tea, what pops into your mind? A bright, beautiful hibiscus flower, right? 🌺

Well, here's a fun fact: the tangy, fruity hibiscus tea you love doesn’t actually come from the common hibiscus flower found in gardens.

Instead, that signature tartness comes from Roselle, scientifically known as Hibiscus sabdariffa. In Manipuri, we call it Silo Sougri, and it’s a special member of the vast hibiscus family, which boasts over 200 species!

Meet Sumac Berry

Growing up in the 90s in Manipur, a single rupee from my mother for a packet of powdered Sumac Berry (locally known as Hei-mang) would brighten my day!

Licking those tiny citrusy berries off my hand in the scorching heat was a joy I couldn't keep to myself. Sumac Berry is so refreshing that both kids and adults can relish it with joy. - Dweller Eli
